LSU CAPTURES THE 2009 COLLEGE WORLD SERIES AND SEC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The LSU baseball program recently captured their SEC leading eighth conference tournament title and their sixth College World Series championship. LSU defeated Vanderbilt May 24th, beating the Commodores 6-2. The Tigers played Texas in a third and decisive game in Omaha, defeating the Longhorns 11-4. Paul Mainieri led his team to a 56-17 record and earning his first College World Series championship as a manager. Mainieri on his championship run: "They played great. They played great defense. Our pitching has been solid all year. When we got to the end of the season everyone was determined they would get it done. It's been a coach's dream to have a group like this." Skip Bertman led the Tigers to five CWS titles in 1991, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 2000. Jerad Mitchell was named the 2009 College World Series Most Outstanding Player.
